I am a former Marine and was in from 1997 to 2003, I left the Corps as a Sgt. Although the setting and time were of a different era, there were themes and situations that were similar enough that triggered memories/experiences I had when I was on active duty. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amy in HB -- Interesting Read : Very much enjoyed the viewpoints, actions and settings of this nicely formulated and well written account of USMC lower level officer life while training and working in Quantico, Virginia during the Vietnam War era . Felt the story flowed well and capably held my attention throughout. The author communicated a series of situations which resulted in sensible and logical actions that flirted with catching the ire of the superior officers. These actions also tended to be weighted with decent and kind emotions that often were lacking in the rigid world of the USMC. An easy read that sheds light on an overlooked aspect of life and some associated internal conflicts while stationed stateside in the USMC. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2017 )

The story is about that often absent but utterly central quality of integrity. What makes a man a man? Sometimes a man rises to power while exercising it, and sometimes a man brings it with him into whatever he does, no matter how much external power he holds.
